Incoming council must lead in electing mayor
At Cupertino City Council meetings, Better Cupertino speakers continued their campaign by attacking Vice Mayor Rod Sinks. They petitioned to not elect Sinks as mayor.
The incoming Cupertino City Council needs to lead Cupertino into civil discourse. Cupertino residents have endured a highly contentious and divided council election. Now that campaign is over — it’s time to let go of campaign mode, follow protocol and elect Sinks to be mayor.
Sinks has represented Cupertino well by championing issues including education, economy, transportation and the environment. His accomplishments include $350 million negotiated in Measure B for transit in the State Route 85 corridor, founder and first chair of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s State Route 85 Policy Advisory Board, and founder and first chair of the board of Silicon Valley Clean Energy.
The incoming Cupertino City Council needs to lead by example: Elect Vice Mayor Sinks to be mayor in recognition of his dedication, leadership and accomplishments in Cupertino, Santa Clara County and the Bay Area. — Hung Wei, Cupertino
