SAN JOSE » The two San Jose boys who were killed by their mother earlier this month in a murder-suicide have been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner- Coroner’s Office as Eric Nguyen, 7, and Chuck Nguyen, 4.

The boys’ mother, earlier identified by the coroner’s office as 43-year- old Uyen Tran, struggled with postpartum depression and left her job to seek treatment, her former employer previously told the Bay Area News Group.

San Jose police have provided little information about the murder- suicide beyond what they released hours after the killings took place March 6 at an apartment in the 5300 block of Dent Avenue. Neighbors said the children’s father discovered the bodies after returning home from a shopping trip about 12:30 p.m.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, detec- tives are classifying this investigation as a murdersuicide,” Sgt. Enrique Garcia said at the time. “Detectives determined the adult female killed her 4-year-old and 7-year- old sons before committing suicide. There are no outstanding suspects.”

Tran was struggling with postpartum depression and left her job as a nail technician at Blossom Nail Spa last March to seek treatment, business owner Linda Do previously told the Bay Area News Group.

“It was complete shock,” said Do, adding that Tran had told her she was seeing a doctor and taking medication for depression. “We were thinking that treatment was getting better.”

The deaths of Eric and Chuck marked San Jose’s eighth and ninth homicides of 2019.
