It started off as a joke, but Tom Cruise vs. Justin Bieber in the octagon might become a reality.

TMZ is reporting that some behind-the- scenes haggling went down last week between Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun; UFC president Dana White; and Ari Manuel, the co-CEO of the agency that owns the UFC.

The three were on a conference call, according to the report, and Braun reportedly said that Bieber would throw hands if Cruise also were willing. Braun also was confident that the 56-yearold Cruise would accept the challenge of his client.

We’d like to remind Cruise that he’s 56 years old. And we’d like to remind Bieber that he’s a song and dance man. Dude, you’re a lover, not a fighter.

“I’d be an idiot not to make this fight,” White had told TMZ earlier. “That would be the easiest fight to promote in the history of my career,” he also said.

Sounds like White isn’t speaking as an evaluator of fighting prowess, but rather an expert on which bill would best fill his pockets. It all started a couple of weeks back when Bieber out of nowhere tweeted that he would like the opportunity to punch, kick, elbow and knee Cruise.

He tagged White in the tweet. “I wanna challenge Tom Cruise to fight in the octagon,” he said. “Tom if you dont take this fight your scared and you will never live it down. Who is willing to put on the fight? @danawhite?

Bieber backed down a few days later by saying it was all in jest, and that Cruise would definitely kick some Bieber butt if the fight were to happen.

Apparently, the UFC folks and Bieber’s handler don’t get Bieber’s biting sense of humor. Bieber and Cruise have never met, according to TMZ, but Biebs is a big fan of the “Mission: Impossible” megastar. To be sure, a fight would draw attention, and Bieber and Cruise would garner plenty of support from their respective fans.

On one side would be the Beliebers, and on the other the Church of Scientology. As far as rabid fan bases go, Cruise gets the edge.

We are now intrigued and hoping one of our MMA-loving uncles will foot the bill on the pay-per-view. We’ll bring the chips and salsa.
