Pens prevail in OT, snap Islanders’ streak

Bryan Rust scored his second goal of the game in overtime, and the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied past the Islanders 4-3 on Thursday night in Brooklyn to end New York’s 10game winning streak.

Pittsburgh erased a three- goal deficit in the third period and snapped its three-game skid. Jared McCann had a goal and two assists, and Evgeni Malkin also scored for the Penguins. Matt Murray made 20 saves. Rust extended his point streak to five games.

Casey Cizikas, Cal Clutterbuc­k and Adam Pelech scored for New York.

The Islanders’ winning streak was the second-longest in franchise history behind a 15-game run during the 1981-82 season.

John Tavares scored at 2:33 of overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 2-1 home win over the Vegas Golden Knights. Playing his second game after missing seven with a broken finger, Tavares took a pass from Mitch Marner on a 2- on-1 and scored his fourth goal of the season, beating goalie Malcolm Subban with a high shot.

Auston Matthews also scored and Frederik Andersen made 37 saves to help Toronto win its third straight game.

St. Louis Blues winger Alex Steen will miss at least four weeks because of a high ankle sprain. Steen injured his left ankle in a collision with Edmonton’s Alex Chaisson late in the second period of a 5-2 win over the Oilers on Wednesday night.

RED WINGS ACQUIRE FABBRI FROM BLUES » The Detroit Red Wings acquired Robby Fabbri from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for fellow forward Jacob de la Rose, the teams announced. Fabbri has recorded one goal in nine games this season for the Blues. The 23-year- old has collected 32 goals and 41 assists in 164 career games since St. Louis selected him with a first- round pick (21st overall) in the 2014 draft.
