James “Jim” Malander, 79, of Los Gatos, CA, loving husband, and father passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023, from Parkinson’s disease.

Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years Gloria, his daughter, Holly, and his sons, Joshua and Jeremy (Sally), and grandchild­ren, Myra, Denver, Violet, and Rhodes. Sisters Phyllis, Marcia, and brother Jon. He is preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Nell, sons, Justin and Jason (Yahna).

Jim was born on March 27, 1943, in Ames, Iowa. He later moved with his family to Colorado where he developed a passion for the outdoors enjoying everything from camping and fishing to skiing and rock climbing. He graduated from East Denver High in 1961, and went on to attend college at the University of Colorado where he met and married his wife, Gloria, prior to receiving his degree in Psychology.

During the Vietnam War, Jim served as an officer in the Navy. His first assignment was in Pensacola where he attended flight school. He then transferre­d to the intelligen­ce division and relocated to Pearl Harbor, HI.

In Oahu, he developed a passion for Hawaiian shirts and fish tacos, and made lifelong friendship­s in the Naval community. After earning his MBA from the University of Hawaii he moved his family back to the mainland where he could apply his computer science skills. Eventually settling in Los Gatos in 1980, Jim began his technology career at a start-up, Data Design Associates. After many years, Jim launched Oasis, a consulting firm specializi­ng in CRM developmen­t for Fortune 1000 companies. He retired from the Navy Reserve as a Captain in 1995 and eventually Oasis in 2017.

Jim enjoyed spending quality time with his family such as coaching ball games, organizing camping trips and ski getaways to Tahoe. Loyal, humble, easy-going and a fun loving guy; he will be sadly missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

A memorial will be held at Darling & Fischer at 615 N. Santa Cruz Ave in Los Gatos, CA at 1 PM on Saturday, February 18th followed by a burial at Los Gatos Memorial Park and a celebratio­n of life reception.
