It wasn’t a clean sweep for labor in election

-

Apparently Cindy Chavez only counts ballot victories that go labor’s way when assessing election results in her op- ed ( Opinion, Nov. 15). She gives herself and labor credit for a 5- 0 score card from the election, and in that number she includes three local and two statewide issues. But realistically, labor lost two major races for San Jose City Council: the election of Rose Herrera in District 7 and Johnny Khamis in District 10.

So, the real result is more like 3- 2 locally, with the voters casting their ballots to balance the employee unions’ power against a 7- 4 council majority who favor fiscal sustainability for all city services. It was truly a good day for sensible local council members who are responsible to the citizens first. Rich Crowley
