Thursday that with “thousands of ballots left to be counted, my supporters are reminding me this race is still close.”

Fergusson’s email also states that because of her current workload and council duties, she “simply didn’t have the minutes in the day to devote to a comprehens­ive campaign” for re- election.

On Friday, she said she wasn’t expecting the outcome to change.

“It’s been a very fulfilling eight years serving the public,” she said.

Carlton, vice chairwoman of the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission, also said Friday she is “feeling pretty comfortabl­e” third seat, Councilman Peter Evans was pushed out by challenger Lisa Yarbrough- Gauthier— by 181 votes.

And in Atherton, candidate Cary Wiest snagged the second available seat on the council behind Vice Mayor Elizabeth Lewis. Challenger Greg Conlon trails him by 204 votes.

Conlon said Friday that since the town accounted for only a small percentage of the county’s voters, it’s highly unlikely he would gain enough votes to jump ahead.

“It’s possible, but it’s unlikely,” Conlon said.
