Raiders waive vet LB Curry
Oakland traded two draft picks to Seattle last year
The Raiders have waived linebacker Aaron Curry, who spent the first eight games of the season on the physically- unable to-perform list with sore knees.
Curry broke the news first in tweet Tuesday that said he was “no longer a Raider,” with the club confirming the move less than an hour later with a tweet of its own. He played in two games this season.
In his first game back, Nov. 11 at Baltimore, Curry picked up two personal fouls and was fined $ 23,625 by the NFL.
The Raiders acquired Curry from the Seattle Seahawks last season for a seventh- round draft pick in 2012 and a fifthround selection in 2013. He immediately was placed into the starting lineup by then- coach Hue Jackson, replacing Quentin Groves.
Curry accepted a pay cut in the offseason to remain with the Raiders .
Ravens: Safety Ed Reed avoided a one- game suspension for late hits after an appeal. He instead will be fined $ 50,000. The NFL suspended Reed for one game without pay Monday for his third violation in three seasons of the rule prohibiting helmet to-helmet hits against defenseless players.
Redskins: Linebacker London Fletcher’s consecutive games streak is in danger once again. A sprained right ankle kept him from practicing, and he has little time to recover before Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Fletcher, 37, has never missed a game in his 15year NFL career and has appeared in 234 in a row, tying him with Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Ronde Barber for the longest active streak.
Steelers: Pittsburgh signed veteran wide receiver Plaxico Burress to provide depth at a position decimated by injuries. Burress, 35, spent his first five NFL seasons with the Steelers, who selected him with the eighth overall pick in the 2000 draft.
Bears: Quarterback Jay Cutler is not certain he will be available for Chicago’s game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday but vowed to return from a concussion this season.
Panthers: Carolina waived kicker Justin Medlock ( Mission San Jose High- Fremont) and replaced him with former Redskin Graham Gano. Medlock missed his last three field goals.
Rams: St. Louis released fullback and special teams captain Brit Miller, an ex- 49er, to make room for center Scott Wells. Wells has been on injured reserve after breaking a bone in his left foot in the opener.
Jets: The team waived wide receiver Jason Hill, who spent four seasons with the 49ers after they drafted him in the third round in 2007.
Seahawks: Rookie safety Winston Guy has been suspended for four games without pay for violating the NFL’s policy on performance- enhancing substances.
