Gordon delays decision
Mitty star waiting until April to sign letter of intent
Archbishop Mitty’s Aaron Gordon, one of the nation’s most coveted high school basketball players, doesn’t intend to sign a college letter of intent until the April signing period.
The early signing period ends Wednesday.
Last week, Gordon trimmed his final schools to Kentucky, Arizona and Washington.
“Aaron is in a unique position,” said Mark Olivier, executive director of the Oakland Soldiers, Gordon’s AAU team. “He’s a program- changer. Most kids can’t wait like he can. They’ve got to sign when offers are made, because they might not be there later. Not Aaron.”
The 6- foot- 8 Gordon is rated among the nation’s top 10 prospects and has led Mitty to two consecutive Division II state titles. He can make an oral commitment at any time, but it won’t be binding until he signs in the spring.
College football
The 49ers’ new stadium in Santa Clara will be host to a bowl game starting in 2014, it was announced Tuesday.
The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, which has been played at AT& T Park in San Francisco, will move once the new stadium is ready.
The bowl pits an atlarge team against a team from the Pac- 12. This year’s game will be played Dec. 29 and features Navy against an opponent to be determined.
College golf
Stanford sophomore Patrick Rodgers, competing against 22 of the best collegiate golfers in the nation, tied for 12th at the Western Refining Sun Bowl All- American Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas. Rodgers finished eight shots behind UNLV’s Kevin Penner.
Rodgers carded rounds of 70- 69- 68 ( 207) at the 54hole event.
Swimming
San Jose State senior Julia Craddock was named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week. Craddock set school records in the 200- yard individual medley ( 2: 01.91) and the 400 I. M. ( 4: 17.55) last week in the Arena Invitational in Long Beach.
Hockey
The San Francisco Bulls got third- period goals from Sacha Guimond and Dylan King and defeated the host Bakersfield Condors 4- 2 in an ECHL game.
