offensive lineman Jeff Gibson on Tedford’s emotions at a team meeting Tuesday morning, where he announced to the players that he had been fired: “He held it together better than I thought he would.” Gibson said Tedford received a standing ovation from the players.

Stanford coach David Shaw: “It’s a sad day, particularly what he’s been able to accomplish at Cal and where that program was when he took it over.”

Chris Conte, former Cal defensive back and currently a member of the Chicago Bears: Sad to see coach Tedford go. Great coach and great guy. Everyone is quick to forget how much he has done for the Cal program.

Anthony Miller, former Cal tight end: Glad I had the privilege to play for coach Tedford.

Justin Forsett, former Cal running back now with the Houston Texans: Gonna miss Coach Tedford.
