South Carolina 81, Savannah State 48: The topseeded Gamecocks (31-2) shot 64 percent in winning their first NCAA tournament home game in 13 years. The Gamecocks last played an NCAA game on campus in 2002. Ever since, they’ve been prevented by the NCAA’s ban against the Confederat­e flagwhich flies on Statehouse grounds. The governing body changed its rules, allowing the top 16 seeds to play the first two rounds at home.

Spokane Regional

Duke 54, Albany 52: Rebecca Greenwell hit a 3-

pointer with 14.9 seconds, and the fourth-seeded Blue Devils (22-10) overcame a season-worst 27 turnovers. Duke has won its NCAA Tournament opener in each of its 22 appearance­s. Imani Tate had 17 points for the Great Danes (24-9), who were denied their first NCAA tournament victory.

Oregon State 74, South

Dakota State 62: Sydney Wiese scored 23 points and Ruth Hamblin scored 10 of her 17 points during a key second-half run to rally the third-seeded Beavers. Oregon State (27-4) trailed by seven points in the first half, and four early in the second half before taking control of

its first home game in the NCAA tournament.

Gonzaga82, GeorgeWash­ington 69: Keani Albanez and Sunny Greinacher each scored19po­ints tohelpNo. 11 Bulldogs (25-7) upset sixth seeded George Washington.

Miami 86, Washington 80:

Adrienne Motley scored 30 points to help the 11thseeded Hurricanes (20-12) eliminate the No. 6 Huskies (23-10). Miami pulled off the upset in part by shooting 7 of 12 from 3-point range.

Baylor 77, Northweste­rn State 36: Nina Davis scored 17 points, and the No. 2 seeded Lady Bears (31- 3)

stretched their home winning streak to 20, including the first two rounds in last year’s NCAA tournament. They opened at home for the fourth time in five years, and are now 7- 0 in those NCAA games.

Notre Dame 77, Montana

43: Jewell Loyd scored 18 points and the top-seed Irish (32-2) won their 18th straight game. The 16thseeded Lady Griz (24-9) entered the game fourth in the nation in field-goal defense, allowing opponents to shoot 33.8 percent but lost for the 11th straight time in the opening round.

DePaul 79, Minnesota 72:

Megan Podkowa scored 23 points, and the No. 9 seed Blue Demons (27-7) used a 22- 4 second half run to come from behind and beat the eighth-seeded Gophers (23-10). Minnesota’s Amanda Zahui B. had 21 points and 22 rebounds, one board short of matching the NCAA tournament record.

Arkansas 57, Northweste­rn 55: Jessica Jackson scored 14 points, including the tiebreakin­g free throw with 30 seconds left as the No. 10 Razorbacks (18-13) overcame a 13-point deficit to upset theNo. 7 Wildcats.
