USF scored nine runs in the eighth inning of a tie game and went on to beat host Santa Clara (14-15, 4-7) 13-4 in a West Coast Conference baseball game on Friday. The Dons (13-18, 7-4) plated the nine runs on seven hits and an error to break open a 3-3 game. Connor Hofmann had a bases-loaded triple in the inning, and Dominic Miroglio and Kyle Norman delivered two-run hits.

nSan Jose State clawed back from a 10-1 deficit, but host Air Force’s four home runs in the first three innings were too much to overcome as the Spartans lost 11-7.

The Spartans (8-22, 2-12 Mountain West) allowed at least one home run in each of the first three innings to the Falcons (13-16, 7-7), who collected 14 hits for the second consecutive day.

Washington State (14n 15, 3-8 Pac-12) scored four first-inning runs, and that was enough for starter Joe Pistorese who went the distance to beat host Cal 4-0. The Bears (20-9, 7-4) managed just four singles.

Loyola Marymount n (18-13, 7-4 WCC) put up six runs in the fifth inning to break open a tight game and go on to beat Saint Mary’s (19-12, 6-5) 12-6 at Louis Guisto Field. Anthony Gonsolin had two RBIs for the Gaels.

Washington (17-12, 4n 7 Pac-12) scored five times in the first and four in the second and went on to rout host Stanford 13-1, keeping the Cardinal (11-16, 0-8) winless in conference.

Softball

Santa Clara (11-25, n 1-2 WCC) split a softball doubleheader with Loyola Marymount (20-22, 2-1), winning 4-3 in the first game and losing 5-3 in the second. Casandra Padilla (3 for 4) knocked in Jenna Krummen with the gamewinning hit in the first game.

Cal (26-9, 4-7 Pac-12) n scored six runs in the first inning highlighted by a Cheyenne Cordes two-run home run, but that wasn’t enough as Utah (26-13, 4-7) used a six-run fifth to rally past the Bears 12-10 in Salt Lake City.

Colorado State (21n 16, 2-3 MW) held San Jose State to five hits in a 1-0 win over the host Spartans (25-14, 5-3). In two games with the Rams, San Jose State has managed just 11 hits and no runs.

Defending conference n champion BYU (22-9) topped host Saint Mary’s (15-22) 7-4 in 10 innings in the WCC opener for both teams. The Cougars scored four runs in the 10th to break open the game.
