SATURDAY’S GAME

-

Tampa Bay ( Erasmo Ramirez 10- 4) at A’s ( Sonny Gray 125), 6: 05 p. m., CSNCA both those injuries were related to the hip problem, which has dogged him for several years.

Bassitt allowed one run in 6 ⁄ innings, but that was one run too many for a floundering A’s offense. Bassitt hit Logan Forsythe with a pitch to open the second, and a wild pitch got him to second base before a one- out Desmond Jennings single produced the game’s first run. Jennings’ ninth- inning homer off Evan Scribner went into the second deck in left and made it 2- 1.

“Ohhhh, this sucks,” Bassitt said. He’s 1- 5, but his ERA in his nine games as a starter is 2.31, so he clearly deserves better.

Oakland got a run in the ninth on an RBI single from Coco Crisp but left men at second and third as the game ended. The A’s outhit Tampa Bay 10- 7 but left too many men on base. To that point, the A’s had five hits in the space of seven hitters in the fifth and sixth innings but left two on base in the fifth, then left the bases loaded in the sixth.

nThe altercation involving a group of fans in Section 112 of the Coliseum on Tuesday night in the first game of the Dodgers series resulted in about half a dozen ejections, A’s director of stadium operations David Rinetti said. He said he didn’t know of any arrests from the biggest fan uprising of the Coliseum season.

Crisp ( ankle, neck) n and Brett Lawrie ( back) returned to the lineup after both had missed the previous three games. Melvin said the return was fortuitous because he wants to use both against left- handed pitching — the Rays started lefty Drew Smyly — and “we’re going to face quite a few left- handed pitchers.” Both had two hits, Lawrie scoring the only run and Crisp driving him in.

Tyler Ladendorf was n activated off the disabled list and optioned to Triple- A Nashville after missing four months with a fractured ankle. He’s likely to be called up when the roster expands in September. The infielder probably would have spent much of the season with the A’s were it not for the injury.
