Youth mentor accused in sexual assault of teen
San Jose-based agency says misconduct arrest is its first in 22-years
MORGAN HILL — A youth mentor of a socialservices agency for at-risk teens has been accused of sexually assaulting a 17year-old boy, according to Morgan Hill police.
Patrick Dauphin, 45, was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery in connection with an encounter reported Nov. 20 in the 100 block of Thyme Avenue, according to a police news release.
Police did not disclose any other details about the alleged assault, other than identifying Dauphin as a facilitator with Unity Care, a San Jose-based agency that primarily serves at-risk minority youth in Santa Clara, San Mateo and Placer counties. The agency often works with the counties’ probation, family and children services, and behavioral health divisions.
Unity Care fired Dauphin on Nov. 24 after learning about the arrest, according to a statement from the agency. The statement also asserts that the alleged crime did not occur at a Unity Care facility, and that it “is the first time in the nonprofit organization’s 22-year history that a Unity Care employee or volunteer has been arrested for an allegation of misconduct involving youth.”
Neither police nor Unity Care, which declined further comment citing the investigation, clarified whether the victim was someone receiving the agency’s services.
Dauphin has been described as being a longtime worker in the social-services field.
Police ask that anyone who knows or may have been a victim associated with Dauphin contact Detective Sheena Pevehouse at 408-779-2101 or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947STOP (7867) or with http:// svcrimestoppers.org.
