Ward fight is set for Oakland

Light heavyweigh­t to face Brand on Aug. 6 in Oracle Arena

Oakland boxer Andre Ward will return home for his next fight.

According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, an agreement has been reached for a 12round light heavyweigh­t bout between Ward (29-0, 15 knockouts) and Alexander Brand (25-1, 19 KO) on Aug. 6 at Oracle Arena. The fight, expected to be finalized this week, will be televised on HBO.

San Jose Sharks

The NHL’s best road team during the 2015-16 regular season will be tested with plenty of games away from SAP Center for the first six weeks of the 2016-17 season. The NHL’s 2016-17 regular-season schedule has the Western Conference champion Sharks playing 12 of their first 18 games on the road..

Diving

Stanford’s Kassidy Cook took the lead in the semifinals of the 3-meter springboar­d competitio­n at the U.S. Olympic diving trials in Indianapol­is. Cook leads 2012 Olympic silver medalist Abby Johnston by 34.30 points heading into the final round of five dives Sunday.

Ariel Rittenhous­e of Santa Cruz missed advancing to the semifinals by one place, finishing 19th out of 27 competitor­s in preliminar­ies. Stanford’s Theodore Miclau is eighth and San Jose’s Collin Pollard is 13th after the semifinals in the men’s 10-meter platform competitio­n. The finals are scheduled for Sunday.

Lacrosse

Stanford law school student Brian Karalunas was recently named to the Major League Lacrosse All-Star game, to be played July 9. Karalunas is a midfielder with the MLL Ohio Machine. It is his fifth All-Star appearance. .

San Jose Giants

The Giants’ C.J. Hinojosa doubled and drove in two runs and Chris Shaw doubled and drove in one but the California League All-Stars fell to the Carolina League All-Stars 6-4 in Lake Elsinore. The Giants’ Rodolfo Martinez worked a scoreless inning of relief and struck out two, and Reyes Moronta allowed two earned runs in his one-inning stint.
