Demi Lovato taking ‘break’ after Taylor Swift comments
Demi Lovato has announced she’s “taking a break from music and the spotlight” after being criticized for questioning Taylor Swift’s commitment to feminism.
In an interview with Glamour magazine, Lovato suggested Swift could do more for feminism if she’s going to claim feminism as part of her “brand.”
The former Disney star, 24, referenced Swift’s “girl squad” saying, “I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body.”
Lovato also brought up Swift’s song “Bad Blood,” which many have speculated is a diss at Katy Perry. Lovato says the song is not representative of “women’s empowerment.”
On Tuesday, Swift reportedly suggested that Lovato’s comments were prompted by jealousy. At least, that’s according to what a source told E! News.
“Taylor has a tight group of women in her life that all have her and each others’ back and sometimes people just want that,” the source said.
Although facing backlash from Swift’s fans, Lovato said she’s not apologizing:
“I get asked questions. I answer them. Sue me,” Lovato tweeted.
Still, she has realized that the price of fame is high, so she’s going to take a break next year. “I am not meant for this business and the media,” she said. Demi Lovato tweeted out that she’s “taking a break” following reaction to comments she made about Taylor Swift, right.
