Dueling endorsements in Peninsula race
San Francisco Supervisor
Scott Wiener scored a big endorsement last week when Attorney General Kamala Harris announced her support for his state Senate candidacy.
Wiener is locked in a tight battle with fellow Supervisor Jane
Kim in the 11th District, which encompasses all of San Francisco and a chunk of northern San Mateo County, including Daly City, Colma and part of South San Francisco.
On her 52nd birthday, Harris, the favorite to win the November runoff to replace outgoing U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, brought her star power to Noe Valley, where she and Wiener schmoozed with merchants and voters.
Kim won the June primary by a slim margin, 45.3 percent to Wiener’s 45.1 percent. But Wiener has locked in more high-profile Democratic Party endorsements, including that of the man they are vying to replace, state Sen. Mark
Leno, who is termed out. Still, Kim won the backing of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and a host of San Francisco leaders including former Supervisor
Bevan Dufty, with whom she campaigned Thursday morning on Church Street. Before meeting up Thursday with Harris, Wiener grabbed lunch with former Rep.
Barney Frank, D-Massachusetts, another endorser. So where did Frank and Wiener eat?
