SAN JOSE — A donation fund has been established for the family of a 49-yearold Alviso man killed in a freak accident late Friday morning.

Leonardo Jeronimo was painting inside the Alliance Credit Union at 265 Curtner Ave. around 11:45 a.m. when an SUV crashed into the building.

Jeronimo was pronounced dead at the scene.

The credit union established the fund to help provide financial support for Jeronimo’s family.

“On behalf of the employees and board of directors of Alliance, our hearts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Jeronimo,” Alliance Credit Union CEO Brian Dorcy said in a statement Wednesday.

Contributions can be made online at www.you caring.com, in person at credit union locations or by calling 800-232-8669.

Jeronimo’s family told the credit union he was a “very caring, funny, loving man who always made his family a priority,” according to a news release.

He is survived by his wife, five children and two grandchildren.

According to San Jose police, a black 2001 Dodge Durango was traveling westbound on Curtner Avenue when a silver 2007 Toyota Prius turned in front of it from Little Orchard Street.

The driver of the Durango tried to avoid hitting the Prius but clipped its rear end, lost control and crashed into the credit union.

A second worker inside the credit union suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.

Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.

Neither drugs or alcohol are suspected as factors in the crash and no one has been cited or arrested.

The fatal collision, which closed westbound lanes of Curtner Avenue between Little Orchard Street and Communications Hill Boulevard for roughly 3½ hours, is the 41st of the year in the city.
