PHILLIP WANG, BELLARMINE

Sport: Water polo Position: Driver Class: Senior Wang scored five goals as Bellarmine cruised past Menlo Atherton 12-2 in the Central Coast Section Division I championsh­ip match. He also scored a goal in an 8-6 win over St. Francis in the semifinals and five goals in a 13-4 win over Leland in the quarterfin­als, finishing the season with 50.

KAMRIN CAOILI, ARCHBISHOP MITTY

Sport: Volleyball Position: Opposite Class: Junior Caoili helped lead the area’s top-ranked team to the first Central Coast Section Open Division title. She had 15 kills with only one error and a .538 hitting percentage in the Monarchs’ sweep of St. Ignatius in the final. A round earlier, she had 13 kills in a 3-1 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral.

East Bay athletes of the week NICK ZELL, HERITAGE

Sport: Football Position: Quarterbac­k Class: Senior Zell rallied his team from a 32-0 deficit, throwing five TD passes to lead the Patriots to a 35-32 victory over San Leandro in the first round of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs. Zell completed 29 of 39 passes for 259 yards and threw the winning TD pass with 34 seconds left.

NIKI CAVOTE, MONTE VISTA

Sport: Volleyball Position: Outside hitter Class: Junior She helped lead Monte Vista to its third consecutiv­e North Coast Section Division I title, finishing with 21 kills, seven digs and three aces in a 3-1 victory over Redwood in the final. In a 3-1 win over Foothill in the semifinals, she led the way with 30 kills, 14 digs, two blocks and one ace.

Maryam Jawid, Lynbrook cross country: The senior cruised to victory in the CCS Division II girls race at Crystal Springs, running the course in 17:42.7 to win by more than 35 seconds.

Elena Kamas, Homestead cross country: Finished first in the CCS Division I girls race at Crystal Springs in 17:57.7, propelling Homestead to the team championsh­ip. Shyam Kumar, St. Francis cross country: Led the Lancers to the CCS Division II team championsh­ip, finishing first in the D-II race in 15:18.3 at Crystal Springs. Alexis Liebowitz, San Ramon Valley water polo: Scored five goals and had a steal in an 8-7 victory over Miramonte in the NCS Division I final, finishing the season with 78 goals. Natalie Novitsky, Sacred Heart Prep cross country: Won the CCS Division IV title, running the course at Crystal Springs in 17:42.8 to win by more than 15 seconds.

Darrell Page, St. Francis football: Promoted to the varsity team before the game, he rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns in 19 carries — scoring on runs 61, 10 and 11 yards — to help lead St. Francis to a 56-27 victory over Mountain View in the first round of the CCS Open Division II playoffs. Jax Pedersen, California School for the Deaf football: Completed 15 of 21 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns to lead CSD to a 24-15 win over Clear Lake in the first round of the NCS Division V playoffs. Hayden Pegley, Menlo football: Completed 16 of 25 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns as Menlo rolled to a 39-7 win over The King’s Academy in the CCS Division V playoffs.

Jane Rakow, Sacred Heart Prep water polo: Finished with 15 saves to help the Gators defeat Soquel 7-3 in the CCS Division II final. “It was the best performanc­e that I’ve ever seen from one of our goalies in a decade,” coach Jon Burke said afterward.

Dominic Range, Livermore football: Rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns to lead Livermore to a 30-20 victory over Mt. Eden in the NCS Division II playoffs.

Isaiah Rodriguez, Valley Christian football: Rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown in nine carries as Valley Christian rolled to a 41-0 win over Burlingame in the CCS Open Division III playoffs.

AJ Schabbing, Bishop O’Dowd football: Helped lift Bishop O’Dowd past Terra Linda 56-14 in the NCS Division III playoffs, rushing for 126 yards and two TDs in 10 carries.

Kyle Smith, Los Gatos football: Sophomore credited with 16 tackles, one for loss, in a 31-6 victory over Palo Alto in the opening round of the CCS Open Division II playoffs.

Brad Yaffe, Sacred Heart Prep football: Accounted for 182 yards — 159 through the air — to help lead SHP past top-seeded Carmel 46-26 in the CCS Division V playoffs. He passed for two TDs and ran for one.

Movin’ on up

Emmanuel Hamzat, University of Nebraska Omaha soccer: Former Santa Clara High, West Valley College and Central Valley Dynamo club player was named the Summit League’s newcomer of the year after scoring six goals and adding two assists in 18 games, including 14 starts, for a team that went 10-5-4 overall.
