Anigwe leads way with 25 points as 7-0 Bears trounce Cornhusker­s

Sophomore Kristine Anigwe had a game-high 25 points as the Cal women’s basketball team beat host Nebraska 86-65 Sunday, to improve to 7-0 and match the best start in program history.

Anigwe equaled her career high with four blocked shots. She went 10 for 13 from the floor and added four rebounds in her fourth 20-point outing of the season.

Sophomore Asha Thomas added 11 points on 3-for-4 shooting from 3-point range. All three of Cal’s freshmen scored in double figures: Jaelyn Brown (13 points), CJ West (10) and Mi’Cole Cayton (11).

The Bears limited the Cornhusker­s’ Jessica Shepard, the 2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, to a season-low eight points.

Stanford 68, UC Davis 42: Erica McCall scored 17 points with a season-high 13 rebounds and the No. 11 Cardinal handled the Aggies.

Brittany McPhee added 11 points for the Cardinal (8-1). UC Davis (5-2) was led by Morgan Bertsch with 12 points.

Connecticu­t 72, Texas 54: Napheesa Collier scored 24 points and the No. 2 Huskies won their 82nd consecutiv­e game with a victory over the No. 14 Longhorns.

Next for UConn is a game at No. 1 Notre Dame Wednesday.

Duke 74, South Carolina 63: Rebecca Greenwell scored seven of her 29 points in the final 51⁄2 minutes, leading Blue Devils past the No. 3 Gamecocks.

Notre Dame 114, Valparaiso 53: Despite hitting 1 of 8 from the field to start the game, the No. 1 Irish (8-0) scored the first 26 points in a blowout of Valpo. During that stretch, Valpo attempted just five shots while committing 10 turnovers.

Baylor 88, Tennessee 66: Alexis Jones had a careerhigh 30 points and added 10 assists and nine rebounds in the Bears’ seventh straight victory. Nina Davis added 20 points and nine rebounds for Baylor (9-1).

Men

North Carolina 95, Radford 50: Kenny Williams III had 14 of his career-high 19 points in the opening 5 minutes and the No. 3 Tar Heels routed the Highlander­s.

The Tar Heels (8-1), who were coming off a loss at No. 13 Indiana, lost guard Joel Berry II to a sprained left ankle in the second half.

Indiana 83, Southeast Missouri State 55: Robert Johnson had 17 points and seven rebounds and De’Ron Davis added 14 points for the No. 13 Hoosiers.

South Carolina 70, FIU 54: Duane Notice scored 27 points and P.J. Dozier had 20 for the No. 20 Gamecocks.
