If you think Highway 101 on Peninsula is slow now ...
QSo, even with the very narrow window that is available for work on the San Francisquito Creek Bridge over Highway 101, how is it that such a small bridge is taking so long to upgrade? And even when it is completed, I’m sure there will be another project (the Willow Road off-ramp perhaps), that will cause a slowdown immediately. It’s almost as if there’s a conspiracy to keep traffic slow through Palo Alto. David Bedno Redwood City
AMake that slow traffic from Morgan Hill up to almost San Francisco Airport. Highway 101 is slated to get hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of new work over the next decade.
First, an update on the San Francisquito Creek project: For environmental reasons, crews have to stop working from June to October. And rains have slowed progress during the project’s working months. So look for a 2018 completion date.
Next, the Willow-101 interchange upgrade is about to begin. That will take about two years to complete.
Then, this is what motorists can expect going forward:
Express lanes on 101 from Morgan Hill all the way to Interstate 380 near the airport.
In the South Bay, a second exit lane from De La Cruz Boulevard to south Highway 87.
New interchanges at 92-101, Marsh Road-101 and Fourth-Zanker in San Jose.
QCan you help with a parking situation that happens right before school lets out for the day? I am sure this happens at every other school as well, but since I live by Cherrywood Elementary in San Jose, this has become an issue.
Parents park illegally in red zones and entrances/exits and even block driveways like mine. When I tell them to move, they get irate and yell back like I am in the wrong, even to the point of threatening me. School administrators constantly remind parents in newsletters not to park illegally.
When I can’t even park in my own driveway, I feel like a prisoner in my home. Being disabled, I need to park in my garage. I can’t park around the corner and walk up the block to my house.
I am at a loss as to what to do. I have exhausted all my options. Please use your powers to convince police and parking compliance to patrol more often and to hand out tickets. Anonymous San Jose
AAlas, this is a problem at so many schools. You need to expect crowded streets during school pickup times, so try to avoid those times. However, parents need to behave better. Blocking your driveway is unacceptable.
There’s one more option. If you would like to request that a space on the street in front of your home be evaluated for an on-street disabled parking spot, email Traffic.Safety@sanjoseca. gov, or call 408-535-3850.
QI was driving home from San Mateo to Campbell on Interstate 280 while a storm was at its worst. Rain, puddles at 65 mph (wee!), wind (yee haw!).
And you know what? People were actually paying attention to their driving for a change! No distracted drivers, no idiots weaving across lanes. Traffic moved smoothly with no surprises. I almost wish we could have weather like that all the time.

ANow, don’t get carried away.
