VALLEJO — A knifewielding man suspected of attacking a 16-year-old Union City boy outside a party early Monday was fatally shot by a Vallejo police officer, authorities said.

The name of the 21-yearold Vallejo man who was shot was not released, nor was the name of the officer.

The shooting happened in the 1700 block of Sacramento Street.

Police had received several calls about 12:38 a.m. Monday from neighbors about a large party where several people were fighting with weapons. A female was also reported to be yelling for help, police said.

Officers arrived two minutes later and saw two people fighting outside the residence.

Police said the 21-yearold man was holding a knife and attacking the 16-yearold, who was on his back. One of the officers, an eightyear veteran of the force, “recognized the threat to the victim and fired his duty weapon at the suspect to stop the threat,” Lt. Jeff Bassett said.

The suspect was hit by multiple gunshots and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Union City teen suffered minor injuries from the fight, for which he was treated. He was released later Monday morning after being interviewed by police, Bassett said.

Police said the shooting is being investigated by the Solano County District Attorney’s Office in compliance with the Solano County Fatal Incident Protocol.

It is the first officer-involved shooting in Vallejo since October — which was associated with the highly publicized attempted shooting of two officers inside a Starbucks.

The last fatal shooting involving an officer here was in March of 2015, police said.
