-

Solomon Thomas Pick: 1st round (No. 3) Position: Defensive line School: Stanford Height/weight: 6-foot-3, 273 pounds

Analysis: Versatile lineman expects to play end on base defense before shifting inside on sub packages.

Quote: “He has the quickness and speed to play on the outside. He has enough size to play on the inside, so you don’t want to put him in one spot.” – Coach Kyle Shanahan Reuben Foster Pick: 1st round (No. 31) Position: Linebacker School: Alabama Height/weight: 6-0, 229 Analysis: Plugs in right away at weakside linebacker, where his sideline-to-sideline range and hard-hitting ability should complement NaVorro Bowman. Quote: “I grew up loving the 49ers, from Patrick Willis to all the greats, and I want to become him, become one of the greats.” – Foster Ahkello Witherspoon Pick: 3rd round (No. 66) Position: Cornerback School: Colorado Height/weight: 6-3, 198 Analysis: Press-type cornerback with great length should immediately challenge for the starting spot vacated upon Tramaine Brock’s April 7 release. Quote: “We really wanted to secure that, and obviously that’s a position where we felt like we needed to get a little stronger. We felt like we had a guy who fit the bill.” — G.M. John Lynch C.J. Beathard Pick: 3rd round (No. 104) Position: Quarterback School: Iowa Height/weight: 6-2, 215 Analysis: Not being touted as the next Joe Montana (their

last third-round QB after a 2-14 season) but his leadership, passion, experience in a pro-style system and success (opened 120 in 2015) won over Shanahan.

Quote: “Now that the 49ers believe in me, I’m going to give it my everything to not let them down. They won’t regret it.” – Beathard Joe Williams Pick: 4th round (No. 121) Position: Running back School: Utah

Height/weight: 5-11, 210 Analysis: Could be a diamond in the fourth-round rough judging from his ability to produce in super-sized fashion, as he did with 332 yards and four TDs against UCLA, as well as 222 yards in the Foster Farms Bowl.

Quote: “I was gone for four weeks and it helped get my life back in order, because at the time it was in shambles. I did everything to come to peace with her death.”

– Williams, who temporarily retired in September to mourn the 2006 death of his sister. George Kittle Pick: 5th round (No. 146) Position: Tight end School: Iowa

Height/weight: 6-4, 247 Analysis: Not only a familiar target for QB Beathard, Kittle has versatility as a blocker and speed as a receiver (4.52 seconds in the 40-yard dash, third-best among tight ends at the combine).

Quote: “At 250 (pounds), I can block anybody you want me to block, and I feel I can run routes and catch the ball well.” – Kittle Trent Taylor Pick: 5th round (No. 177) Position: Wide receiver School: Louisiana Tech Height/weight: 5-8, 181 Analysis: Bruce Ellington’s latest competitor as a slot receiver and punt returner, Taylor led the nation with 1,803 receiving yards last season.

Quote: “I was able to improve on my stats each year in college. They got better and better, and I know I’ve got to start from ground zero once again once I get to the NFL.” – Taylor D.J. Jones Pick: 6th round (No. 198) Position: Defensive line School: Mississippi Height/weight: 6-1, 319 Analysis: He becomes the heaviest defensive lineman on the roster and could be ticketed for the practice squad if he can’t beat out Chris Jones or Mike Purcell as a backup nose tackle. Quote: “My lower center of gravity. My ability to jump off the football. Being able to use my power and finesse to get to the quarterback.” – Jones on his best qualities. Pita Taumoepenu Pick: 6th round (No. 202) Position: Defensive line School: Utah Height/weight: 6-1, 243 Analysis: Needs to bulk up as a pass rusher but showed promise with nine sacks last season, including two in Foster Farms Bowl. Quote: “I have great ability to get after the quarterback. It’s what I do.” — Taumoepenu Adrian Colbert Pick: 7th round (No. 229) Position: Defensive back School: Miami Height/weight: 6-2, 205 Analysis: Texas transfer had an interception and three pass breakups in eight games as redshirt senior.
