STANFORD — Police have arrested a man they said was prowling behind a home south of the Stanford University campus last week.

Officers arrested Jun Pegarido, 32, of Daly City, about 3:10 p.m. Monday, minutes after police were notified of an incident on the 500 block of Gerona Road on Stanford property, according to the Stanford Department of Public Safety.

Department spokesman Bill Larson said Pegarido was in the backyard of the residence.

“When observed by the victim, he fled on foot and was stopped minutes later in a vehicle by Stanford deputies on Junipero Serra Boulevard near Campus Drive,” Larson said.

Pegarido was booked into Santa Clara County’s Main Jail on a charge of prowling. Bail was set at $15,000.

The department says it is also investigating Pegarido as a possible suspect in two indecent exposure incidents on campus that occurred April 18 and April 30.

A group of three people reported to Stanford police that a man exposed himself to them as he stood next to his parked vehicle on the east side of campus about 1:55 a.m. last Sunday before leaving in the vehicle.

The victims described the vehicle as a newer white sedan and the suspect as between 30 to 50 years old, about 6-feet tall, heavyset, with short dark hair and a short beard. He was wearing glasses and a dark polo shirt with a dark tracksuit jacket.

On April 18 at 11:57 p.m., a student told Stanford police that a man followed her into a student residence on the west side of campus and exposed himself.

In that case, the suspect was described as a “darkskinned male in his early 30s” about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, heavyset and with black hair. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and holding a white towel.

Stanford has banned Pegarido from the campus. He is not a Stanford student or employee, or affiliated with the university in any way, according to Larson.

If Pegarido is released from jail, anyone who sees him or a vehicle associated with him on campus is asked to immediately call the Department of Public Safety by dialing 911. The vehicle is a black 2016 Toyota Tundra 4x4 with a California license plate number of 92383X1.
