Reed shoots 67 for one-shot lead
Noren right behind; Johnson among 17 players within 4 shots
Patrick Reed birdied his final two holes for a 5under 67 to surge into the lead Saturday at the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina, but not by much. With one round remaining at Eagle Point, the tournament remains wide open, even for Dustin Johnson.
Reed stuffed a short iron into 4 feet on No. 17 and reached the 580-yard 18th hole in two for a twoputt birdie, giving him a one-shot lead over Alex Noren of Sweden.
Seventeen players were within four shots of the lead. That includes Phil Mickelson (69) and Johnson, who had a 67.
Michelle Wie rallied n to beat Angel Yin in the Lorena Ochoa Match Play in Mexico City to join Ariya Jutanugarn, Sei Young Kim and Mi Jung Hur in the semifinals. Wie set up a match against Kim, a 5and-4 winner over Karine Icher.
John Daly shot a bogey-free n 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Kenny Perry in the PGA Tour Champions’ Insperity Invitational in Texas.

Aric Almirola earned the third Xfinity Series victory of his career by holding off a hard-charging pack in the closing laps at Talladega Superspeedway.
Justin Haley won the n rain-delayed ARCA Racing Series event at Talladega in the first restrictor-plate start of his career. Haley, 18, held off Andy Seuss in an overtime finish.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez dominated a grudge match against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., winning a unanimous decision in a fight in Las Vegas that left no doubt who is the top active Mexican boxer. Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) used a punishing jab to take control early.
Soccer
Short-handed Toronto FC beat the Seattle Sounders 1-0 in a rematch of last year’s MLS Cup final. ... Mauro Manotas had two goals and an assist as Houston beat MLS-leading Orlando City 4-0 . ... Maximiliano Urruti scored two goals and Jesse Gonzales had his fourth shutout of the season in FC Dallas’ 3-0 victory over Real Salt Lake . ...
