ALYSSA BREWER, CALIFORNIA
Sport: Track and field Event: 800 Class: Junior Brewer successfully defended her title in the 800-meter race at the CIF state championships in Clovis by turning in a time of 2:07.07, the fastest result among California runners this season and fourth among runners nationally. She was able to outlast Del Oro’s Cathilyn McIntosh, who finished a close second with a time 2:07.62.
IFFY JOYNER, PITTSBURG
Sport: Track and field Event: Discus, shot put Class: Senior Joyner had an impressive final day at the CIF state championships in Clovis. He took first in the discus after measuring in with a personal-best distance of 203 feet, 8 inches on his next-to-last attempt. In addition to winning the discus, Joyner also placed in the shot put, taking fifth with a distance of 59-09 in the final round. His mark in the discus ranks fourth among California throwers this season.
MADI MAYS, CONCORD
Sport: Softball
Position: Third base Class: Freshman In a game that featured many offensive highlights, Mays stood out as she went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a run scored in a 17-1 victory over Livermore in the North Coast Section Division II championship game. Mays finished the season with a .380 batting average and 12 wins in the pitching circle as the Minutemen went 22-7.
MATT LLOYD, ARCHBISHOP MITTY
Sport: Golf
Course: Poppy Hills Class: Senior The Purdue-bound Lloyd won the individual state championship after shooting a 6-under par 65 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach. Lloyd’s outstanding performance helped the Monarchs capture the state title as a team as Lloyd’s teammate Daniel Kim finished as the runner-up in individual competition. Mitty finished with a team score of 357.
