Hundley re-signed to back up Buster Posey for Giants
Stanford promotes Pritchard to offensive coordinator
The Giants re-signed free-agent catcher Nick Hundley to a one-year contract, general manager Bobby Evans announced Tuesday.
Hundley, who was the Giants’ Willie Mac Award winner in his first year with the club, hit .249 with nine home runs and 35 RBIs in 101 games as Buster Posey’s backup in 2017. Nearly half of Hundley’s hits — 32 of 70 — went for extra bases last season.
“We are glad to welcome Nick back to the Giants,” said Evans. “We appreciated his contributions last year, and we look forward to him wearing a Giants uniform again in 2018.”
Hundley’s one-year deal is for $2.5 million, according to published reports.
The Giants are Hundley’s fourth team in his 10-year career, and the 34-year-old has hit 81 home runs and driven in 340 runs in 847 games with the Padres (2008-14), Orioles (2014), Rockies (2015-16) and Giants.
