Power-packed win for Golden Knights

Shea Theodore snapped a tie with 2.3 seconds left, and the Vegas Golden Knights scored four powerplay goals Tuesday night, ending Tampa Bay’s sevengame winning streak with a 4-3 victory over the NHLbest Lightning.

It was Vegas’ third straight win and seventh in eight games. This one came against the top team in the league Tampa Bay leads the NHL with 50 points.

The expansion Golden Knights are 14-2-1 at home, tying them with Washington and the New York Rangers for the most home wins in the NHL.

JETS 6, PREDATORS 4 >> Brandon Tanev scored the tiebreakin­g goal with 1:26 left, sending Winnipeg over host Nashville. Nikolaj Ehlers had two goals, and Adam Lowry, Patrik Laine and Blake Wheeler also scored for the Jets. Tyler Myers added three assists and Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves.

CAPITALS 4, STARS 3 >> Andre Burakovsky scored his second goal of the game 1:51 into overtime, lifting Washington over Dallasfor its fourth straight win. Capitals wing T.J. Oshie returned after missing six games with a concussion. RANGERS 4, DUCKS 1 >> Henrik Lundqvist stopped 39 shots, Paul Carey scored twice, and New York beat Anaheim for its third straight win. Kevin Hayes and Michael Grabner also scored for New York, and Nick Holden and David Desharnais each had two assists. Ondrej Kase scored for the Ducks, who have lost three straight. John Gibson made 28 saves.

LEAFS 8, HURRICANES 1 >> Mitch Marner and Tyler Bozak each had a goal and three assists, and Toronto stopped a three-game slide. Toronto scored four in the first and four more in the third on a special anniversar­y for the NHL. The first NHL games were played on Dec. 19, 1917, including a 10-9 win by the Montreal Wanderers over Toronto.

Toronto played without star center Auston Matthews, who missed his fifth straight game because of an upper-body injury.

RED WINGS 6, ISLANDERS 3 >> Trevor Daley scored the goahead goal midway through the third period, and Detroit won for just the third time in 13 games.

With the Islanders reportedly set to be awarded the right to build a new arena at Belmont Park in a news conference today, there were brief chants of “Bel-mont! Bel-mont!” after the national anthem in Barclays Center.

The Islanders are in their third season at the Brooklyn arena after spending the franchise’s first 43 seasons at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum.

WILD 6, SENATORS 4 >> Eric Staal scored twice, Nate Prosser had a goal and an assist, and Minnesota rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Ottawa. Ottawa led 3-1 in the second period behind two goals from Erik Karlsson and another from Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Chris Stewart and Mikko Koivu scored to tie it before the second intermissi­on, and then Prosser, Jonas Brodin and Staal scored for Minnesota in the final period. BRUINS 3, SABRES 0 >> Jake DeBrusk scored for the second straight night, Anton Khudobin turned away 36 shots, and Boston won for the seventh time in 10 games.

CANADIENS 7, CANUCKS 5 >> Nicolas Deslaurier­s had the first two-goal game of his career, and Montreal outlasted Vancouver. Thomas Vanek had a hat trick for Vancouver.
