Kanye West footwear stolen in San Bruno armed robbery
SAN BRUNO >> A pair of shoes designed by entertainer Kanye West was stolen in an armed robbery late Thursday night, police said.
The victim had listed the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 “Cream White” shoes for sale through an app and agreed to meet a buyer about 11:42 p.m. at San Felipe and Milton avenues on the southeast side of town, said Lt. Ryan Johansen of the San Bruno Police Department.
The buyer arrived with three other males, one of whom pointed a handgun at the victim and took the shoes, Johansen said. The robbers fled in a white Chevrolet sedan.
The robber armed with the handgun was described as Latino and about 15 to 17 years old. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black Polo pajama pants.
A second robber was described as Asian, about 18 to 20 years old and 5 feet 6 inches tall, with an average build and black hair.
The driver of the getaway car was described as Latino, about 25 years old and heavyset. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a colorful logo on the front.
A description of the fourth robber was not available.
The victim wanted $450 for the fancy footwear, Johansen said. Released in April, the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 “Cream White” is one of several shoes designed by West in conjunction with Adidas.
Similar robberies spurred San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa to establish a “safe exchange zone” at the Maple Street Correctional Center in Redwood City earlier this year. Transactions take place in view of high-definition cameras that are monitored around the clock by jail personnel.
Canepa also helped set up a similar zone at Daly City’s City Hall following the 2013 murder of 22-year-old resident Ikenna Uwakah, who was shot to death when he went to San Francisco to sell a video game console he had advertised on social media.
