San Jose State falls to UNLV in overtime

Ryan Welage scored eight points in a 15-3 run that forced overtime, but San Jose State couldn’t pull ahead in the extra period and lost 82-76 to UNLV at the Event Center on Wednesday night.

The Spartans (3-11, 0-3 Mountain West) have lost three in a row and eight of nine, but took a one-point lead with 25 seconds remaining in regulation on Noah Baumann’s threepoint­er.

Jordan Johnson hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final 30 seconds of overtime to help UNLV (12-3, 1-1) seal the victory.

Welage led the Spartans with 23 points.

FLORIDA STATE 81, NORTH CAROLINA 80 >> Braian Angola scored 20 points for the No. 24 Seminoles (122, 1-1 ACC), who led most of the game but almost squandered it as they didn’t make a field goal in the last 2:57 and missed their last four free throws.

FSU snapped a sevengame losing streak to the No. 12 Tar Heels (11-4, 2-1) and extended its home winning streak to 28, currently the third-longest in Division I.
