Kim and Kanye welcome their third child, a girl
Kim Kardashian has announced one of the most anticipated events of 2018 — and it doesn’t have anything to do with another nude selfie extravaganza.
The reality TV mogul said that a baby girl, the third child for her and her husband, Kanye West, was born Monday, according to TMZ.
“Kanye and I are happy to announced the arrival of our beautiful baby girl,” Kardashian said in a statement. She added that the girl is a healthy 7 pounds, 6 ounces.
It was previously reported that the entertainment power couple had hired a 27-year-old San Diego-area woman to be their surrogate. The woman has two children of her own. The couple paid the surrogate $45,000 in 10 monthly installments and an agency an additional $68,000 to broker the deal, TMZ reported.
It’s likely that the surrogate gave birth at a San Diego-area hospital, as opposed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center near Beverly Hills. That hospital is where Kardashian welcomed her other two children, North, 4, and Saint, 2.
The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star was advised to not go forward with a third pregnancy for medical reasons. Her pregnancies and deliveries of North and Saint were complicated by a rare condition known as placenta accreta, wherein the placenta attaches too deeply into the uterine wall.
The condition is painful and can potentially cause mothers and babies to bleed to death.
In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” Kardashian admitted that she hated being pregnant and was initially relieved to escape the physical challenges that would come with a third pregnancy.
But this third pregnancy, via a surrogate, turned out to be harder than her first two in certain ways, she said.
“You know, it is really different,” she said. “Anyone that says or thinks it is just the easy way out is just completely wrong. I think it is so much harder to go through it this way, because you are not really in control.”
