Kansas State stymies Young, upset Sooners Women

Barry Brown scored 24 points and Dean Wade added 21 for Kansas State, which frustrated Oklahoma star Trae Young in its 87-69 upset of the fourth-ranked Sooners on Tuesday night.

The defensive-minded Wildcats (13-5, 3-3 Big 12) bounced back from a lastsecond letdown against Kansas with their sixth consecutiv­e home win over the Sooners.

Young was held to 20 points on 8-of-21 shooting, his fewest since scoring 15 in his college debut. He also was 2 of 10 from the 3-point line and committed 12 turnovers against six assists.

It was the Wildcats’ first win over a top-5 team since beating the then-No. 1 Sooners two years ago. NO. 3 PURDUE 78, WISCONSIN 50 >> Carsen Edwards scored 21 points and Vincent Edwards added 20 in the Boilermake­rs’ victory over the Badgers, who have lost three in a row.

NO. 15 NORTH CAROLINA 87, NO. 20 CLEMSON 79 >> Graduate transfer Cameron Johnson scored a seasonhigh 21 points to help the Tar Heels improve to 59-0 all-time at home against the Tigers, who were led offensivel­y by Marcquise Reed’s 21 points.

SOUTH CAROLINA 76, NO. 18 KENTUCKY 68 >> Chris Silva tied his career high with 27 points to help the Gamecocks rally from 14 points down in the second half and defeat the Wildcats. NO. 19 MICHIGAN 84, NO. 8 OHIO STATE 75 >> Hallie Thome scored 27 points to help the Wolverines rally and upset the Buckeyes, who shot just 36.1 percent (26 for 72) from the field and suffered their first loss since Nov. 30.

NO. 14 MARYLAND 74, INDIANA 70 >> Kaila Charles scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half to help the Terrapins hold off the Hoosiers, who were led by 18-point efforts from Amanda Cahill and Jaelynn Penn.

NEBRASKA 74, NO. 20 IOWA 65 >> Maddie Simon scored 19 points and Hannah Whitish added 18 to help the Cornhusker­s upset the Hawkeyes, who got 29 points and 18 rebounds from Megan Gustafson.
