QI live on Devine Street across from the new courthouse in San Jose, but find it dangerous to make that lefthand turn on Market Street. When will Julian be back open so I can safely make a right-hand turn on Market then use the left-turn lane onto Julian? — Bonnie Smith, San Jose

ASoon, very soon. The Julian Street realignment is close to ending and then the city will open new streets to traffic. The last major hurdle is getting the streetlights up and operating so pedestrians and motorists can safely travel through the area.

QLast winter on Highway 17, we had a slide outside Los Gatos and a slide near Vine Hill Road. Both closed the highway, and the slide in Los Gatos has been covered with cement. Yet, the slide near Vine Hill has been left as exposed dirt. Why didn’t Caltrans cover the slide by Vine Hill with concrete? — Robert Hull, Scotts Valley

ACaltrans geotech folks are evaluating the site to find the best solution. They need to determine the depth of the slide, the type of material it is composed of and if a soil nail wall covered in concrete would work or a debris catchment system that is up there now would be better.

QA driver does not have to go to Australia to receive a ticket for going 3 mph over the speed limit. My husband and I were traveling on Bubb Road in Cupertino. We came to a stop sign at the corner of a street that terminated at Bubb. We were the only car in all directions. We thought we had come to a stop but were pulled over by the sheriff.

We went through all the formalities, received the ticket and then asked why were we pulled over. Her reply was that our stop was not complete and registered at 3 mph. So drivers, be especially careful when driving in Cupertino, too. — Pauline McDowell, Sunnyvale

AI bet that in her view the deputy thought you rolled the stop sign.

QWhat kind of deep thinking does it take to pave McKee Road north to Toyon Avenue, then leave multiple, deep potholes almost to Valley View Avenue? Bump, bump, rattle, bang. — Barry Scott, San Jose

AMcKee north of Toyon is in poor condition. But the “bump, bump, rattle, bang” should end this summer when paving is planned. In the meantime, pothole crews have been dispatched.
