Victims identified in trio of fatal crashes
GILROY >> Authorities have identified three people, including a 6-year-old boy and a 43-year-old Gilroy man, who died in a trio of separate crashes over the weekend in the HollisterGilroy area.
The first crash, reported at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, occurred along Highway 152 east of Lake Road on the outskirts of Gilroy when a 2014 Ford veered off the roadway and hit a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, identified as 49-year-old Monterey resident Krista Evers, died at the scene. Her passenger, a 49-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
On Sunday, 43-yearold Gilroy resident Michael Gonzalez died when his 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a 2005 GMC Sierra around 4:10 p.m. near Highway 156 and San Felipe Road in the northern end of Hollister. According to the CHP, the motorcyclist turned left against a red light and into the path of the Sierra.
Gonzalez died at the scene, and his passenger, a 29-year-old Gilroy woman was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
Around 5 p.m. that same afternoon in the same area, 6-year-old Camilo MoraValles of Salinas was killed when the 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck he was riding in drifted off McCloskey Road east of San Felipe Road in Hollister and hit a wooden utility pole, the CHP said.
The crash, which also seriously injured a 7-yearold boy, led to the arrest of 30-year-old Hollister resident Jesus Mora on suspicion of murder and driving while intoxicated causing great bodily injury.
