Bruins’ newcomers get off to a good start

Charlie McAvoy scored 1:08 into overtime and Rick Nash had a goal in his home debut for Boston as the Bruins rallied to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Tommy Wingels, Riley Nash and McAvoy each had a goal and an assist for Boston, which trailed 3-1 in the first period.

Brock McGinn, Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho scored for Carolina, and Justin Faulk had two assists. Scott Darling stopped 28 shots for the Hurricanes, who are 0-5-1 in their last six games.

Tuukka Rask made 29 saves for the Bruins, who got big nights from Nash and Winger, their other new addition. Nash was acquired from the New York Rangers on Sunday and Wingels arrived Monday in a trade with Chicago.

“At this point of the season, you don’t have time to wade your way into it. You have to be ready to go from the get-go,” Wingels said. “If you get traded, this is the kind of place you want to go to. It’s a team that’s capable of winning it all.” PANTHERS 3, MAPLE LEAFS 2 (OT) >> Jared McCann scored at 3:47 of overtime in Florida’s victory over Toronto.

Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and an assist, and Aleksander Barkov also scored for the Panthers, who got 37 saves from Roberto Luongo.

Zach Hyman and Dominic Moore scored for the Maple Leafs.

STARS 2, FLAMES 0 >> Ben Bishop made 37 saves and recorded his 24th career shutout in Dallas’ victory over Calgary.

Bishop had 17 saves in the second period when Dallas increased its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Tyler Seguin. WILD 8, BLUES 3 >> Eric Staal had three goals and two assists to combine with linemates Mikael Granlund and Jason Zucker for 14 points and propel surging Minnesota past St. Louis, which has lost seven in a row.

Granlund had two goals and two assists and Zucker added a goal and four assists for the Wild, who have won five in a row overall and are 19-2-5 in their last 26 home games.

DEVILS 3, PENGUINS 2 >> Taylor Hall equaled New Jersey’s franchise record with points in 15 straight games, and Stefan Noesen scored the only goal of the third period to push New Jersey past Pittsburgh. CAPITALS 3, SENATORS 2 >> Evgeny Kuznetsov scored his 18th and 19th goals of the season to lead Washington past Ottawa, which has lost 22 of its past 25 games on the road.

Tom Wilson also scored for the Capitals, who leapfrogge­d Philadelph­ia to regain first place in the Metropolit­an Division. PREDATORS 6, JETS 5 >> Roman Josi had five assists, Craig Smith scored twice and Ryan Hartman redirected in the winning goal during his Nashville debut to help the Predators beat Winnipeg for their fifth victory in a row.

PENGUINS EXTEND HORNQVIST >> The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Patric Hornqvist to a five-year extension that runs through the 2022-23 season. The deal has an average annual value of $5.3 million.

Hornqvist, who was set to become a free agent this summer, was acquired in a 2014 trade with Nashville and has 85 goals and 93 assists with the Penguins.
