Rams sign Suh to 1-year contract

- By The Associated Press

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh agreed to a oneyear contract with the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, joining All-Pro Aaron Donald on a potentially fearsome defensive front.

Suh was released by the Dolphins earlier this month when he declined to restructure his hefty contract after three seasons in Miami. He attracted widespread interest as a free agent before agreeing to join the defending NFC West champion Rams, who have revamped their already solid defense with several offseason additions.

Suh’s deal in Los Angeles is worth $14 million, according to the NFL Network and ESPN.

Suh is a five-time Pro Bowl selection during his eight-year career with Detroit and Miami. He has 51 sacks and is considered an excellent run-stopper.

With Suh and Donald playing side by side, the Rams will have a formidable front for defensive coordinator Wade Phillips’ 3-4 scheme. Suh and Michael Brockers should start alongside Donald, the AP’s Defensive Player of the Year.

BENNETT FACES FELONY CHARGE >> Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro defensive end Michael Bennett has surrendered to authorities in Houston on a charge that he injured a paraplegic woman as he tried to get onto the field after last year’s Super Bowl to celebrate with his brother.

Bennett made a brief court appearance Monday on a felony count of injury to the elderly.

Bennett was a spectator at the game at NRG Stadium in Houston in February 2017 when he tried to get onto the field immediately afterward to see his brother, Martellus Bennett, a tight end for the Patriots at the time.

Prosecutors allege he pushed through security personnel, including a 66-year-old woman in a wheelchair who was a stadium employee.

The Eagles acquired Michael Bennett from the Seattle Seahawks in a trade this offseason.

REDSKINS SIGN MCPHEE >> The Washington Redskins have signed free-agent linebacker Pernell McPhee, who spent the past three seasons in Chicago.

Knee and shoulder injuries limited McPhee to 22 games over the past two seasons. He has 182 tackles and 31 sacks in seven NFL seasons with the Bears and Baltimore Ravens. GIANTS KEEP BOLSTERING DEFENSE >> The New York Giants have signed safety Michael Thomas, who spent the past five seasons in Miami. He is the seventh defensive player added by New York in the last two weeks, joining linebackers Alec Ogletree and Kareem Martin, defensive backs Teddy Williams, Curtis Riley and B.W. Webb, and defensive tackle Josh Mauro.

Thomas joined the 49ers in 2012 as a free agent out of Stanford. He spent that season and most of 2013 on the practice squad. BROWNS RE-SIGN CARDER >> The Cleveland Browns have re-signed free-agent linebacker Tank Carder, who missed last season with a knee injury. Acquired from Buffalo in 2012, he has been on the Cleveland roster longer than any player.

Carder was expected to start last season before he tore a knee ligament during an Aug. 21 exhibition game. He has appeared in 77 games with the Browns and was a captain in 2016. JETS SET SESSION WITH ALLEN >> In their search for a franchise quarterback, the New York Jets will work out Wyoming’s Josh Allen but don’t plan to have a private session with USC’s Sam Darnold.

Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said Monday that the organization has had “quite a bit of exposure” to Darnold, and that bringing in any player for a predraft workout is “no big shocker.”

New York traded up from the sixth overall spot to No. 3, presumbably to draft a quarterback.
