‘Cool mom’ Kylie Jenner brutally shamed for ‘leaving’ infant to party
Kylie Jenner has sparked a fierce online debate about maternal responsibility after “leaving” her 2-monthold baby at home for a weekend of “partying” at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
The 20-year-old “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star attended two Coachella parties and shared several Instagram photos of her baring some skin as well as some bright pink or blue hair, the Daily Mail reported. In one of the photos, which received 7 million likes, she proclaimed: “I’m not a regular mom. I’m a cool mom.”
But some weren’t too pleased with Jenner for “ditching” her very young baby for a weekend to go to concerts, hang out at star-studded parties and even appear to drink alcohol, according to a sampling of tweets and Instagram posts, some shared by the Daily Mail. Jenner and her boyfriend, 25-year-old rapper Travis Scott, became parents on Feb. 1 to daughter Stormi.
When announcing the birth, Jenner proclaimed that being pregnant had been “the most beautiful, empowering life-changing experience” she had in her life.
But after seeing Jenner’s Coachella posts, fans revived the criticism that Jenner was too young to have a baby, and with a guy she had only dated a few months.
In reaction to the Coachella posts, one person wrote with some snark: “That’s good parenting right there. Let’s leave my infant baby while I go partying lmao . ... must be hard to have and baby and be responsible and bond.”
“Your place should be with your newborn!” yet another proclaimed. “She doesnt breastfeed I read in an article!” wrote someone who brought up the breastfeeding and attachment issue. “Which doesnt surprise me at all because to be a breastfeeding mother you would have to be with your baby all day everyday.”
As for Jenner’s declaration that she’s a “cool mom” someone wrote, “A ‘cool mom’ doesn’t up and leave her newborn for a weekend of partying at Coachella,” concluding, “If you wanted to party don’t get pregnant. #WhatAConcept” And some pointed out that co-parent Scott was left out of the criticism, even if he joined Jenner in Coachella, the Daily Mail said.
