Inn-Escapable >> Dive into the Monterey Tides
Perched on the golden sands of Monterey Bay, the Monterey Tides got a major refresh in 2016 that makes it a relaxed and romantic choice for a beach getaway. Now part of the Joie de Vivre boutique hotel group, the 196-room hotel has undergone a charming modern reboot. A bright, airy lobby offers ocean views along with a roaring fireplace and redwood-burl coffee tables. It’s a great place to grab a drink and relax.
While the hotel’s facade remains a bit worn, the interior has been revamped, from the soothing color palette of natural hues and nautical-inspired decor, to the Spanish-inflected menu at its on-site restaurant. Zzz’s: Rooms are on the small side, but they boast a breezy sense of design, as well as flat-screen TVs and automated blinds. Snazzy fixtures, such as silver-studded blue-leather headboards and fresh white linens, make the beds very inviting.
Splashes: The bathrooms are tasteful and sleek, outfitted with chic vanities and lighting, and Jonathan Adler toiletries. The deep blue sea is right outside your door and there’s a pool, screened from the nearby parking lot, with redwoodstyle decking and cheerful blue accents that will appeal to adults as well as kiddos. Extras: Soak up the epic views while sipping white wine sangria paired with ceviche at the hotel’s Vizcaino Waterfront Food + Drink. There’s also a lively bar in the lobby, where many guests gather to toast the sunset. Details: Rooms start at $179. Monterey Tides, 2600 Sand Dunes Drive, Monterey. www. jdvhotels.com
