Stanford gets No. 2 seed in NCAA regional
Third-ranked Stanford (44-10) is the No. 2 national seed for the NCAA baseball tournament and will play host to an NCAA Regional this weekend a Sunken Diamond.
Cal State Fullerton (3223), Baylor (36-19) and Wright State (39-15) complete the double-elimination field at Stanford.
Stanford, ranked No. 3 by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball, faces Wright State at 7 p.m. Friday (ESPN2) with Fullerton playing Baylor in the opener at 2 p.m. The winners play Saturday while the losers play an elimination game.
The regional continues Sunday and Monday if necessary. Game times for Saturday-Monday will be determined.
It is the 17th time Stanford has hosted an NCAA Regional. Regional tickets will be available starting Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Defending national champion Florida, 4217 and ranked No. 1 by Baseball America and fourth by Collegiate Baseball, is the No. 1 national seed. Oregon State, 44-10-1 and ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball and second by Baseball America, is the No. 3 seed.
Stanford clinched its first Pac-12 Conference championship over the weekend, finishing 1 1/2 games ahead of Oregon State. In addition to the Beavers, the Pac-12 had two other at-large teams named to the field: UCLA and Washington.
The College World Series in Omaha will begin on June 16.
