A six-week-old puppy stolen out of a San Jose warehouse on Monday, an incident captured on surveillance camera, was located in Ceres and reunited with its owner.

San Jose police received a tip Wednesday that lead to the dog’s recovery and the arrest of Mohammed Nayl, a resident of the small Central Valley town.

Nayl was booked into the Stanislaus County jail on one felony count, possession of stolen property, and one misdemeanor count, violation of a domestic violence restraining order, according to San Jose police.

Ceres police contacted Nayl at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at his home, where they found Nyla, a huskyretriever mix.

A short time later, Luis Gutierrez, Nyla’s owner, drove to Ceres to reunite with the puppy he had had for just eight days when she was taken Monday afternoon.

“I feel great,” Gutierrez said just before 1 p.m. as he reunited at the Ceres Police Department with his puppy.

Monday, Gutierrez brought Nyla to the family’s business, not wanting to leave the puppy home alone. Later that afternoon while Gutierrez and other family members were in other parts of the building, a man walked into the warehouse, snatched Nyla and drove away, according to Gutierrez.

The incident was captured on video,

On the video, a man driving a new Mercedes SUV/van with paper plates parked just outside the open warehouse at 3 p.m. Monday and walked inside. Wearing a T-shirt and shorts, the man walked through the warehouse and looked around. After about 80 seconds, he appears to spot Nyla, sitting under a table.

The man looks outside, crouches down and reaches his hand toward the puppy. When Nyla walked to the man, he pet her, picked her up and walked back to the SUV and drove away.
