A ‘GENERATIONS OF STRENGTH’ WEEKEND

Get ready for the big San Francisco Pride celebration, whose highlight is the city’s 48th annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Parade and March. The theme for this year is “Generations of Strength.” We’ve rounded up the major events for Pride 2018, which runs Saturday and Sunday. Find more details at www.sfpride.org.
LGBT Pride Parade
More than 100,000 spectators are expected to turn out for the parade, which will feature more than 280 contingents.
START TIME >> 10:30 a.m. Sunday
ROUTE >> Along Market Street, starting at Beale Street and running to Eighth Street. CELEBRITY GRAND MARSHALS >> Our Lady J, Jose Xtravaganza and Luis Camacho BEST SEATS FOR PARADE >> Purchase $40 tickets to sit in the grandstands, which are located on the north side of Market Street between Seventh and Eighth streets. Celebration and Rally
Oakland’s immensely popular R&B star Kehlani
highlights a two-day bill that also includes disco/ R&B icon Evelyn “Champagne” King, acclaimed house DJ/producer Hector Fonseca, rapper Le1f and “Wanna Be Loved” singer Natascha Bessez.

DRIVING >> Not recommended. And if you are headed into the city for any reason Sunday morning, the parade will create significant traffic issues. If you must drive, consider

THE PINK TRIANGLE >> Volunteers are welcome to help install the Pink Triangle from 7-10 a.m. Saturday, and then take it down from 4:30-8 p.m. Monday. Volunteers are encouraged to bring hammers and gloves and wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and sunscreen. Visitors are also welcome to view the installation located at Twin Peaks. www.thepinktriangle.com.
