Surrounded by his family, Oliver “Woody” Woodworth passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the age of 85.

Born in Gilroy to Oliver Ansel Woodworth Sr. and Rosa Katherine Baer Woodworth. Oliver was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 53 years, Beverly Ann Woodworth, in 2005. Beloved by his four sons and their wives: Michael of San Jose, Scott and Jasmine of Morgan Hill, Jeffery and Janet of Glenbrook NV, Brian and Krystal of San Jose; loving grandfathe­r to ten grandchild­ren: Michelle, Amber, Daniel, Michael, Scott, David, Julie, Ashley, Bryce and Blake and great-grandfathe­r to Madison and Jackson.

Oliver is survived by siblings Alberta Woodworth Samuelson M.D. of Palos Verdes, John Baer Woodworth of Palo Alto, and predecease­d by his sister Irene Rose Woodworth Shepard of Stockton in 2016. He attended St. Mary School, graduated Gilroy High School in 1950, received a Bachelor of Industrial Education/Teaching from San Jose State University in 1955 and a Master’s in Education in 1956.

Oliver and Beverly were married July 12, 1952. He served in the US Army from 19521953 and was stationed in Germany as a Military Police Officer. The couple later moved to San Jose where they raised their family and lived for nearly 50 years until her passing.

Oliver worked for the San Jose East Side Union High School District for 35 years where he taught Woodshop, Autoshop, Driver Education, Math, created and managed the district’s behind-the-wheel Driver Training program, and supervised the school bus garage.

Oliver loved to travel, taking many cruises and trips to Europe, China, Korea, Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska, and toured Russia and Cuba with his brother John. After retirement he ran in numerous 10K races and later enjoyed attending exercise classes at the Almaden Community Center. It was there he met his best friend and loving companion for the last 10 years, Carol MacDonald. Carol invited him to The Episcopal Church in Almaden where he became an active member and made many new friends.

He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service celebratin­g Oliver’s life at The Episcopal Church in Almaden, 6581 Camden Ave, San Jose, CA 95120, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday June 30.

In lieu of flowers, Oliver requested donations be made to his favored charity, St. Mary School, 7900 Church St. Gilroy CA 95020.
