Concepcion Valera Peters died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on June 16, 2018. Known by her friends and family as “Ching,” she is survived by her husband, Richard, her three children, Sandie, Bill and Amie, and eight grandchild­ren, Matthew, Natalie, Ryan, Benjamin, Anthony, Nicholas, Michael, and Christophe­r.

Ching was born in Los Banos, Philippine­s on Dec. 28, 1931, to Felix B. Valera and Bartola Lim. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the Philippine­s and a PhD in microbiolo­gy from Cornell University.

Ching married Richard on Sept. 19, 1964 in Los Banos. Before retiring to their home in San Jose, California, they raised their family while living in Algeria, Nigeria, Bolivia, Zaire, Honduras, Ecuador and Jordan. Ching loved plants and flowers and was an avid gardener. She was also well-known for her delightful cooking which made the Peters’ home a favorite destinatio­n for friends and family.

A funeral service will be held for Ching at Queen of Apostles Church on Monday, June 25th, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, she will be placed to rest at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.

Ching will be greatly missed and always remembered for her love, warmth, grace and elegance.
