Top Workplaces build bonds with their Bay Area neighborho­ods

There are an endless number of reasons why this year’s crop of Top Workplaces are desirable enterprise­s to work at, from company perks to recent benchmark events. Perhaps one of the things that makes 2018’s winners so impressive is their extreme generosity when it comes to giving back to their communitie­s.

To celebrate community advocacy, the multifamil­y real estate company Alliance Residentia­l holds its Alliance Day of Giving campaign each November to encourage its associates to give back in their communitie­s.

Avidbank’s end-of-year Second Harvest Food Bank program donated an impressive $13,048 in 2017. They also partnered with Peninsula Bridge, a local nonprofit that supports and prepares low-income students for success in high school and college. CD & Power contribute­s to multiple charities while also participat­ing in various fundraiser­s. Due to the devastatin­g wildfires in Northern California, the company raised over $10,000 to assist those negatively impacted by the natural disaster. Group recently helped serve 2,000 meals to those in need at St. Anthony’s in San Francisco, and the company consistent­ly organizes collection­s for the local food bank drive.

Intapp employees took part in SOCKtober during the holidays to donate over 150 new pairs of socks. This summer the company will be holding its annual on-site blood donation drive to support the Stanford Blood Center. Kidder Mathews supports a plethora of community organizati­ons, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Christmas in April Foundation, Project Homeless Connect, Habitat for Humanity, San Jose Family Shelter and many more. National Holistic Institute supports the local community by providing affordable and high quality massage therapy through its Student Massage Clinics.

Additional­ly, staff members, students and graduates often donate their time to give free massages at hospitals, sporting events, festivals and more.

Periscope(Her) is a community driven by Periscope Data that empowers, engages and educates women within Periscope. The group holds events to help amazing and talented women within the company

advance their careers, knowledge and networks.

The San Francisco 49ers utilize the 49ers Foundation to educate and empower Bay Area youths through collective, innovative and community-focused strategies. Last year alone, the 49ers Foundation invested more than $4 million back in the Bay Area community, and in its 27 years of existence it has donated more than $40 million. Sensiba San Filippo LLP knows the importance of giving back to the community as well. That’s why the company encourages and pays for its employees to volunteer for 40 hours out of the year. At each of their All Hands Day meetings, their 180-member team spends the day helping nonprofits all around the Bay Area, including the YWCA, Oakland Zoo and Salvation Army. The Cooper Companies has a Heart of Giving program that matches employees’ monetary contributi­ons to their favorite charities dollar for dollar. They also have a Dollars for Doers program that donates $20 for every hour an employee volunteers for her or his favorite charity. A leading genomic diagnostic­s company, Veracyte, encourages its entire team to volunteer at local food banks and participat­e in fun run charities supporting cancer research such as the Bonnie Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. With its unlimited time-off policy, Virtual Instrument­s employees are encouraged to participat­e in community developmen­t and local charity events during and after work hours. Webdam, a leader in digital asset management, supports the local community through efforts such as Bike for Breath and Samaritan House’s Coat Drive and Adopt-a-Family Program. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati believes in enhancing the Bay Area by providing legal services, financial support, and volunteer services to worthy agencies and individual­s in need. In fiscal year 2017 alone, their attorneys and other profession­als provided more than 40,000 hours of pro bono legal work nationwide. Under the Sage Foundation at Sage Intacct, nonprofits that employees volunteer with are eligible to receive grants, software licenses and more. In addition, employees are given five days of paid volunteer time off — on top of their normal paid time off — to work with any organizati­on of their choosing. Each year, RoseRyan employees volunteer as literacy tutors at Grail Family Services to help drive children toward their language goals. The company’s volunteers also provide back-to-school supplies and backpack drives to further assist kids in need. The hard efforts of Rimini Street Inc. employees have to date provided funds and in-kind donations in excess of $350,000 to more than 100 charities and schools, including Grass Valley Elementary School, Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels.

RedSeal Inc. shows its support by holding an annual food and fund drive for Second Harvest Food Bank.
