Dodgers shortstop Seager has another major surgery

- By The Associated Press

Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager is recovering from his second major operation of the season.

Seager underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left hip on Tuesday. The 2016 NL Rookie of the Year had Tommy John surgery in May.

The 24-year-old Seager is expected to be at full strength for the start of spring training in February. Manager Dave Roberts says dealing with Seager’s lingering hip issue right now “made sense” with the two-time All-Star already sidelined by the elbow operation.

ELLSBURY HAS HIP SURGERY >> Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is out for the season after surgery on his left hip. The Yankees said that Ellsbury had arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum the previous day. The expected recovery time is about six months. The 34-yearold Ellsbury has been out all season with a number of injuries, including an oblique strain and sore back. NATIONALS SIGN HOLLAND >> The Washington Nationals have signed free agent reliever Greg Holland, who they hope can regain his effectiveness and provide leadership in the clubhouse. Holland was 0-2 with a 7.92 ERA in 32 games with St. Louis before being designated for assignment on July 27.

DRURY OUT >> Blue Jays infielder Brandon Drury is going back on the disabled list, this time for a broken left hand that occurred before he was traded from the New York Yankees to Toronto. The Blue Jays put Drury on the 10-day DL on Tuesday. Infielder Richard Urena was called up from Triple-A Buffalo.

SOX ANNOUNCER HAS CANCER >> Boston Red Sox television analyst Jerry Remy is again battling cancer. NESN announced Remy’s latest diagnosis in a statement Tuesday. The network says “at this time, Jerry’s focus is on his medical treatment.” The 65-yearold former Red Sox second baseman was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008, relapsed in 2013 and again twice in 2017.
