SAN JOSE » Three teenagers were shot and wounded in a sudden and unprovoked attack Halloween night at the Seven Trees Community Center, according to San Jose police.

The three teens — a 15-year-old boy, and a boy and girl who are both 14 — each suffered “at least one gunshot wound” and were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not lifethreatening, police said.

The shooting was reported at 10:28 p.m. behind the Seven Trees Community Center on Cas Drive, Sgt. Enrique Garcia said.

Police said an unidentified person approached the teens, “words were exchanged,” and then gunshots rang out.

“He approached the group and then opened fire,” Garcia said.

Police said Thursday that the department’s gang investigation unit was investigating the shooting, but as of Thursday there was no publicly disclosed evidence that the attack was gang related.

Police also released a limited description of the gunman, who fled after the shooting: A male of undetermined age with a thin build, wearing a dark black-and-white hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored pants.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the SJPD gang investigation unit at 408277-3835 or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-STOP or at svcrimestoppers.org.
