Nathan Kallman

Nathan Kallman passed away on September 15th, 2018 at the age of 97. He was a son of the late Max and Lillie Kalmanowitz and was predeceased by his siblings, Harry, Ada and Minnie and his beloved wife, Edith. Nat is survived by his children, Jay Kallman and Melanie (Dr. Michael) Carlston, his grandchildren, Morgan Carlston, Rachel (David) Cantong, and Marissa (Kyle) Kusunose, his great-granddaughter, Vivienne Cantong, and his niece, Marilyn Feinberg, among other relatives. He leaves his devoted partner, Gloria Dermott.
Nat was born and educated in New York City, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and shortly thereafter began his career, married and went to law school, during which time Jay and Melanie were born. The family moved to California in 1959, where he became an extremely successful and respected Patent Attorney. Nat was an expert in disk drive technology and his cuttingedge work contributed to the growth of Silicon Valley. Dozens of patents bear his name, and hundreds of other patents from the last six decades cite his work.
Nat will be remembered most of all for his wonderful sense of humor, his magnetic personality, his kindness, his love of sports and travel, his incredible intellect and his genuine love of people, especially his family. Judaism was an important part of his life, and with Edith he helped found Congregation Beth David, a thriving synagogue in Saratoga, CA.
Nat has made a profound impact on his community and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
