Rooney will be honored with 1 more appearance

The Football Associatio­n will honor Wayne Rooney by allowing the D.C. United striker to make his 120th and final England appearance against the United States at Wembley Stadium on Nov. 15.

The friendly fixture will be called the Wayne Rooney Foundation Internatio­nal in support of the former Manchester United forward’s charitable interests.

The 33-year-old Rooney, who joined D.C. United from Everton earlier this year, retired from internatio­nal duty in August 2017 as his country’s record goal-scorer (53) and having won more caps (119) than any other England outfield player. He is also Manchester United’s record goal-scorer (253). SPORTING K.C. 1, REAL SALT LAKE 1 >> Diego Rubio scored from distance in the 60th minute, seconds after entering as a second-half substitute, and Western Conference champion Sporting Kansas City tied Real Salt Lake in Game 1 of the twolegged semifinal.

LATE EAGLE LEADS DECHAMBEAU TO VICTORY >> Bryson DeChambeau holed an eagle putt from just inside 60 feet on the 16th hole that carried him to a 5-under 66 and a one-shot victory over Patrick Cantlay in the Shriners Hospital for Children Open in Las Vegas.

DeChambeau won for the fourth time in his last 12 starts on the PGA Tour and moved to No. 5 in the world ranking.

ROSE WINS, MOVES TO NO. 1 >> Justin Rose is No. 1 in the world again, and this time he goes home with a trophy.

Rose rallied from a threeshot deficit with a 3-under 68, and then defeated Li Haotong of China on the first playoff hole with a par to win the Turkish Airlines Open for the second straight year.

The first time Rose reached No. 1 in the world was two months ago, a bitterswee­t moment because he lost the BMW Championsh­ip outside Philadelph­ia in a playoff against Keegan Bradley.

HATAOKA EARNS WIN AT HOME >> Local favorite Nasa Hataoka shot a 5-under 67 to win the Japan Classic at Shiga for her second LPGA title of the season.

Hataoka offset a pair of bogeys with seven birdies at the Seta Golf Club to finish at 14-under 202, two strokes ahead of compatriot­s Momoka Ueda, Saki Nagamine and Spain’s Carlota Ciganda, who all shot 68.

Figure skating

HANYU WINS IN HELSINKI >> Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu started his Grand Prix season with a commanding victory by almost 40 points at the Helsinki round.

With a 13-point lead from Saturday’s short program, the Japanese skater scored 190.43 points in the free skate to win with a total score of 297.12.

Hanyu executed four quadruple jumps including a quad toeloop-triple axel combinatio­n, though with some less-than-perfect landings, to an ecstatic reception from the crowd.

Hanyu’s short program, free skate and total scores are the highest in the Grand Prix series so far this year.

Motorsport­s

HARVICK CLAIMS VICTORY NO.8>> Kevin Harvick earned a shot at another NASCAR Cup championsh­ip, rocketing past polesitter Ryan Blaney in overtime to win the AAA Texas 500 at Fort Worth.

Another late caution led to a third restart in the final 35 laps, each time with Harvick leading. Harvick led 177 of the 337 laps.

It is the second year in a row that Harvick, the 2014 Cup champion, won the fall race at Texas to get into the final four.

• Authoritie­s said two men were rushed to hospitals in critical condition after being found suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning inside their converted bus at Texas Motor Speedway. Fort Worth fire spokesman Kyle Clay said firefighte­rs found the men shortly before 9 a.m. Bystanders had reported the men were ill inside the bus parked in the raceway’s infield. A bystander was giving one of the men CPR when firefighte­rs arrived.

KHACHANOV WINS IN PARIS >> Karen Khachanov upset a tired-looking Novak Djokovic 7-5, 6-4 to win the Paris Masters title and deprive Djokovic the chance of matching Rafael Nadal’s record of 33 Masters titles.

Djokovic, a record fourtime champion at the indoor event, looked out of energy after an epic threehour semifinal win against Roger Federer on Saturday.

Marathon

ANOTHER NYC WIN FOR KEITANY >> Mary Keitany of Kenya and Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia won the New York City Marathon. Keitany beat countrywom­an Vivian Cheruiyot by three minutes, 13 seconds for her fourth victory in the event.

Keitany ran the race in 2 hours, 22 minutes, 48 seconds, the second fastest in history. Margaret Okayo of Kenya holds the record of 2:22:31, set in 2003.

Desisa, 28, held off countryman Shura Kitata by 1.99 seconds for his first win in New York. He finished in 2:05:59.

MMA

CORMIER RETAINS TITLE >> Daniel Cormier slapped a pair of championsh­ip belts over his shoulders in New York and celebrated UFC history. Cormier choked out Derrick Lewis in the second round late Saturday night to retain his heavyweigh­t championsh­ip in the main event of UFC 230 and became the first fighter to defend titles in two weight classes. He’s also the light heavyweigh­t champion.
