Carol Ann Johnson
Beloved Carol Ann Johnson passed away on Sat. Oct. 19, 2018 in San Jose, CA. Carol was born in St. Joseph, MO and moved to Los Angeles, CA with her parents when she was a young girl. She had a happy childhood enjoying all that S. Cal. offered, such as theater, concerts, trolley rides to the beach, and picnics in Griffith Park.
In 1955, Carol received her AA in Dental Assisting from Los Angeles City College. She worked in dentistry until 1958, when she moved to San Jose with her husband, Paul Johnson. They remained in the Bay Area and celebrated 58 years of marriage in 2014.
People were drawn to Carol’s friendly, sincere personality – and she had an infectious laugh that brought a smile to your face. She was active in her community: teaching Sunday school at the new West Valley Presbyterian church, playing in bridge groups, co-leading her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, reading stories to elementary school students.
In the Sixties, Carol joined a craft group where she forged life-long friendships and exercised her creativity making candles, felt ornaments, beaded trees, scrapbooks, and paper art. Each year, friends and family looked forward to her handmade Christmas cards. In retirement, Carol knitted over 600 hats for the preemie babies at Kaiser Santa Clara. She loved music, singing, fine dining, hiking, nature, and--most of all--spending time with friends and family. She was full of life and spread joy with her wit and fun-loving spirit. She will be greatly missed and the world is a lesser place without her.
Carol was preceded in death by son, Mark; husband, Paul; and her adored parents Earl and Thelma Freeman. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and David Kettmann; granddaughter, Kayla Kettmann; and great aunt, Mary Jane Baker.
Carol’s family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers at both the Alzheimer’s Activity Center and Regency of Evergreen Valley where Carol resided for her final two years.
