-

Eileen Hunton, loving mother of four children, passed away peacefully at age 93 on Monday, November 5th, 2018.

Eileen was born May 30th, 1925 in Auckland, New Zealand and grew up on the idyllic island of Apia, Samoa (Western Samoa at the time). After high school, Eileen worked as secretary to the Governor of American Samoa, where she met her future husband, Walter James (Jim) Hunton. They married in 1950 and moved to the San Diego area where Eileen worked as a legal secretary before embarking on Navy postings to Saipan, Guam and Memphis. The family settled in Santa Clara in 1959.

As well as being a dedicated Mom, Eileen taught English in elementary school and provided Samoan translator services for the local court system. She was passionate about helping children, loved growing roses and enjoyed a good cup of tea. Her welcoming manner exemplified the Fa’a Samoa way of family, hospitality and spirituality.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Jim and is survived her four children, Cynthia, Charmaine, Tina & Jim, her three grandchildren, Alicia, Dutch & Austin, and her two great-grandchildren Hailey & Christopher.

A private burial service will be held Wednesday, November 14th at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to non-profit organizations helping children.
